The Highlands neighborhood, located just northwest of the downtown area, is made up of three dynamic districts. LoHi, Highlands Square, and the Tennyson Cultural District bring unique flair to this up-and-coming neighborhood.

The central location of the Highlands neighborhood makes it easy to get around Denver – whether you prefer to go on foot, by bike, in your car, or using public transit. Take your car and I-25 connects you to all the major roadways. Or, skip the drive and take advantage of Denver’s public transit system. There are multiple bus stops in the neighborhood and nearby light rail stations at 41st/Fox and Union Station.

Highlands is consistently rated as one of Denver’s best neighborhoods for both pedestrians and cyclists. Not only are there tons of shops and restaurants within the neighborhood, but there is also easy access to everything the downtown area has to offer. Reach the LoDo area easily by walking or biking over one of the neighborhood’s three pedestrian bridges. Visit one of the local bike shops (like SloHi on 29th) to rent a bike and explore everything that Highland has to offer.

Cycling from Highlands is easy and fun. Use the Highland Bridge to connect to the Colorado Front Range Trail or the South Platte River Trail. From the Bridge, you can head north to Henderson or south to Englewood. Both trails intersect with many others in Denver’s renowned trail system, so cyclists can always find a new and exciting destination. Trail maps and information can be found here.

Shopping, Dining, and Entertainment

LoHi

Lower Highland, called LoHi by the locals, is known for the abundance of unique restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and boutiques. There’s something for everyone here, which makes it a popular destination to visit! Residents enjoy being able to walk to some of the city’s most popular spots for shopping, dining, and nightlife. Root Down, on the corner of 33rd and Osage, is a renowned eatery! Take one look at their innovative menu, with plentiful options for everyone, and you’ll know why this LoHi neighborhood favorite attracts visitors from all over Denver and beyond.

Highlands Square

The Highlands Square shopping district along 32nd avenue is bustling with unique local shops and cafes and fun events like the Highlands Street Fair in June. Spend a fun afternoon here, or plan to visit on the third Thursday of the month, when many of these businesses bring their merchandise outside and stay open until 8pm. It’s a festive atmosphere with live music and displays by local artists. Also, mark your calendar for the Farmers Market At Highlands Square each week from June – October. Browse the stalls for fresh local produce, flowers, meats, and other specialty items while you enjoy great live music.

Tennyson Street Arts District

The Tennyson Street Cultural Arts District is home to some of Denver’s most unique boutiques, art galleries, and book shops. Enjoy the night life with restaurants, bars, and venues for live music. Be sure to visit on first Friday of each month when galleries and shops stay open until 10pm.
